MET Gala

Of course we all know that Monday evening marked the date for one of the most exhilarating fashion nights of the year, the MET Gala.

Tons of well-known and established celebrities teamed up with their top fashion stylists to prepare their fabulous looks for this extravagant event.

The festivities took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute of New York City. The Met Gala, also known as the Met Ball, is an exclusive event that’s used for the fundraising to aid the museum. The Gala also marks the grand opening of the annual fashion exhibit.

Everyone had various opinions regarding the looks that were chosen for each celebrity. Some opinions were based on solidified knowledge regarding the Gala, the theme and fashion, while others were wildly premature.

Whatever your take was, there is no doubt that all eyes were reviewing the photos, video clips and articles that were buzzing Monday night. It was definitely a night to remember.

The Spring 2015 Exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was dedicated to the art of Chines Fashion. The exhibit is called “China: Through the Looking Glass”, and it showcases Chinese art, artifacts and dresses that interpret Chinese designs.

I’d say that the theme was one that required some solid research regarding Chinese fashion, aged and current, to come appropriately dressed.

Considering the fact that a ticket to this gala was $25,000, I would have definitely made sure I understood the background of the theme prior to sending my client down that red carpet!

The theme was genius and also allowed designers and stylists to shine due to their dedication, product knowledge, research and attention that was required to pull off some of these looks.

Although there were several hits and misses, I can say that I walked away with several favorites from the MET Gala. Let me just say that my style picks of the evening were NOT picked due to the popularity of the celebrity or stylist, but based on the creativity of each look.

Fan BingBing

This woman seriously made my jaw drop as I saw her walking down the red carpet. C’mon! She nailed this look with no hesitation.

It’s no question that she was wearing Christopher Bu, her go-to designer. She was extremely over looked, but one of the best dressed of the evening.

Although I was impressed by her floor length, sequinned gown- I must say that it wasn’t my favorite part of her look was her cape. Can we talk about this cape?!

This jewel toned, floor length cape really gave fans a run for their money. Truly nailing the theme of the MET Gala, Fan Bingbing sparkled as she twirled around on that carpet.

The mixes of fabrics from her dress to her cape really complimented each other well. She was styled with Chopard jewels and a Louis Vuitton clutch. Give me life!

Karen Elson

Decked out in this fascinating Dolce and Gabbana gown with the blood red train, Karen Elson dazzled onlookers effortlessly.

Not only did her look serve as a depiction of the theme of the evening, it also was one of the most elegant looks of the evening. What was there not to love?

I mean, the stitching and embroidery on her gown was to die for. The jewels that were stitched to the gown definitely remind me of colors, tones and hues that I’d see while peaking through the looking glass.

The accessories styled with the dress, including her matching cuffs, bejeweled necklace and earring all added heat to her fire.

My favorite part of her look had to be her beautiful headpiece. This definitely completed her look, I’d say that crowning this beauty was a brilliant idea.

She rarely does any fashion wrong in my book, and the MET Gala gave her even more credibility regarding fashion sense and taste.

Solange graced the red carpet in a Giles mini dress with hundreds of small pleats, resembling a Chinese fan.

I loved this look based on the fact that it directly features the selected theme. Her look totally plays on Chinese tradition and it was not just a dress, it was also a work of art.

The distorted imagery on the dress was soothing to the eye, also showcasing a visual that may be found while peaking through the looking glass.

Paired with a slick pony tail and simple pumps, I’d say that this dress spoke for itself. I was impressed!

Her look was bold and unique, just the way that I like it.

Number one, most of the ladies wore floor length evening gowns, making the British actress stand out even more. She made sure that she was strikingly different, while still rising for the occasion.

Number two, the fringe sequin fabric that was used to create her pants suit was absolutely genius! Not only was the fabric extremely eye catching, it also gave off a great deal of light and sparkle as she strutted down the red carpet.

The color red was definitely a highlight of the night, saluting Chinese culture and tradition. She was original, sexy and sophisticated in her sparkling, red trouser suit.

Of course I couldn’t sign off without applauding one of my favorite fashion icons to date, Rihanna. This woman nearly chewed up the MET Gala and spit it back out when she stepped on the scene.

I’d say that her look literally had EVERYONE floored and wanting more! Give me more.

Rihanna hit the red carpet like a queen should, looking decadent in her canary yellow Guo Pei robe. The robe wasn’t lightweight at all, seeing that her train was several feet long! Her stylist, Mel Ottenberg, along with three trained handlers carried the train of her robe across the red carpet.

Her look was beautifully embroidered, stitched and fur-trimmed. She paired the look with Cartier jewelry, Louboutin heels ad a crystal and gold headpiece (designed by Gou Pei). Rihanna’s look took the cake for the evening, nothing else came remotely close!
